Frequently Asked Questions

Below you'll find answers to the questions that we get the most. If you can't find what you're looking for, don't hesitate to reach out to our dedicated support team info@greenhalo.nz.

  • What types of data sources does GreenHalo integrate with to collect emissions data?
GreenHalo integrates with suppliers of electricity, transport fuels (petrol, diesel, etc), air travel, freight and waste. There’s a built-in survey to collect staff commuting information and an upload function for mileage claims.
  • How does GreenHalo automatically draw our carbon emission data?
Data is currently being collected via five methods. GreenHalo has built links directly to some common suppliers e.g. BP and electricity providers. Once set up, data automatically pulls straight into GreenHalo. GreenHalo has set up an invoice drag-and-drop system for some common suppliers e.g. Orbit travel. Connect an internet-of-things (IoT) device e.g. water meter, electricity smart meter. The GreenHalo team can set up processes using robotic process automation (RPA). RPA is an AI tool that replaces human processing. And, of course, there’s a manual spreadsheet upload using GreenHalo’s templates. Methods 1 – 4 require no human intervention so is efficient and accurate.
  • What sets GreenHalo apart from other software providers in the market?
GreenHalo is the most automated and intuitive carbon accounting software platform of its type for New Zealand organisations. It’s built for large corporates and SMEs and everyone has the ability to directly and automatically share their data. Our audit functionality is unique and powerful, including the automated Toitū Envirocare audit reporting. We’re 100% Aotearoa owned by Ember Technology, which has been delivering software, data solutions, AI and IT for 12 years.
  • Can the software handle data from different business locations?
You can set up different business sites or locations. We’re about to release a tagging function so you can report against customers, products, groups of sites or any other aspect you can dream up.
  • How secure is our emissions data within the software?
We are most of the way towards complying with the New Zealand Government Communications Security Bureau’s New Zealand Information Security Manual (NZISM). This is the New Zealand Government’s manual on information assurance and the security of information systems. You can read more about NZISM here.
  • Does the GreenHalo support real time emissions tracking and monitoring?
Yes. If we can source the data in real time then it will be available for tracking and monitoring in real time. Good examples are IoT devices and RPA processing.
  • How user-friendly is the software and is there training available for our team?
GreenHalo is highly intuitive so that you can get started right away and be self-sufficient. But if you need some training, we’re here to help. Contact us on 0800 GO GREEN or info@greenhalo.nz

  • Can we access historical emissions data and track trends over time?

  • Do you have any cyber security certifications?
We have been independently verified as achieving SOC2 Type 1 certification by Australian cyber security firm, AssuranceLab. SOC2 certification is administered by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is one of the most recognised standards in the world. It is similar to ISO 27001 certification, which is perhaps more common in Australasia.
  • Has GreenHalo been subjected to an independent penetration test?
Yes, an independent New Zealand cyber security company, Pākiki, has completed a penetration test on the GreenHalo website and web app.
  • How will our data be hosted?
All data is hosted in Microsoft Azure (ISO 27001 compliant) in two different time zones, the primary one being the Australia Southeast zone. We use one third-party application and customer data may be held for 30 days in the United States.
  • How will our data be encrypted?
All data is encrypted both in transit and at rest.
  • What is GreenHalo’s patching and vulnerability management process?
We usually have a fortnightly release cycle which includes patches and any required vulnerability management as detailed in our terms of trade.
  • What control do we have over access to the platform?
Anyone with an admin account in the product is able to add or change the privileges of users. You are in full control of the user access of your account. Role based access control is used.
  • Is there the option to use Single Sign On (SSO)?
Yes, we do offer an integration with popular identity management solution Microsoft Azure AD, and highly recommend using this when registering for GreenHalo. This allows for increased security as your login is authenticated through your business account. Any company policies such as multi-factor authentication therefore get applied to your authentication requirements.
  • Does GreenHalo have an Incident Response Plan?
Yes. This includes a communication plan for keeping our customers aware of the impact of any data breaches.
  • Is our data backed up?
Yes, data is backed up daily. We regularly perform a comprehensive test of restoring our system from a backup in line with our policies.
  • Does GreenHalo have a Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan?
Yes, and this is regularly tested.
  • How is the security of GreenHalo tested?
A vulnerability scan is performed prior to each release, and we work with an independent third-party security provider to perform penetration tests and control reviews where required.
